Newsletter Number 7

Spring is arriving (slowly) and everyone is enjoying the lighter evenings. Our fish Bubbles, Derek and Goldie are settling in well. Our pupils are enjoying feeding them and caring for them before training another pupil who takes over the following week.

Congratulations to Charlotte and Oscar for their principal roles in the Gala. Our other Primary 7 pupils have the opportunity to be Maid of Honour or Gentleman in waiting. The Gala is on  23/06/18.

Tempest photography will join us on Friday, 9th of March for class photographs.

Our Scots Poetry Competition was braw! All pupils entered and the following pupils were given certificates of excellence: Charlotte, Lewis, Szymon, Artur, Reuben, Abby, Daniel, Savannah, Frilly and Sylvia. Congratulations!

We have had very positive feedback about our weekly intended learning being published for parents on the school website. Please discuss this at home each week. We will also publish weekly home learning tasks on the website. Tasks will continue to be offered as mild, medium and hot options to suit the needs and wishes of individual families!

ACHIVEMENT AT ST MARGARETS!

We know that our pupils achieve widely both in and out of school. Over recent weeks we have been working to develop our own unique Achievement Pathway called SMART (St Margaret Achievement Recognition Time). Each pupil will plan personal opportunities and track their achievements across the school year under four sections:

  • successful learners
  • confident individuals
  • responsible citizens
  • effective contributors

Please remember that if our school had to close temporarily due to bad weather, there is a section on the website to support your child to learn at home.

Well done to Primary 3 and Primary 4 for leading us in a beautiful Ash Wednesday Service; your readings were very tricky and you delivered them perfectly. Apologies for the last minute change of venue; due to staffing and weather we were unable to join the parish for Mass as planned.

Drumming Performance by P1/2 and P3/4 will be in the small hall on Friday 2nd March at 9am. All welcome.

SCIAF supports the world’s poorest communities. Our ‘wee boxes’ need to be filled for SCIAF, out Lenten charity. The Government will match our donation so please give generously.

Tristan and Charlie are busy organising our Midlothian Commonwealth Passports. The passport aims to encourage our pupils to get active and enjoy a range of sports. Please look out for your child’s passport in their school bag today.

It was such fun to have our Rainbow, Brownies and Guide come to school in their uniforms for Thinking Day. Check out Twitter to see them.

The P7s enjoyed their visit to the high school on Friday and were pleased to meet pupils from the other schools that will be attending St David’s after the summer.

Our P5/6/7 Musical will be in the school hall at 7pm on Tuesday, 27th March. Tickets will be sold to the families of P5/6/7 pupils first before being sold to the wider community.ary

Pupils of P5/6/7 will join with Loanhead Primary P6 and P7 pupils for a Road Safety Show today. Check out our Twitter feed later today!

Everyone loves a birthday and we like to hear about how you and your family celebrate. Unfortunately we are unable to accept any cakes (whether homemade or shop bought) to give out to pupils. If you would like to bring a treat to school to celebrate your child’s special day this must be in an individual sealed wrapper (Haribo mini bags or small bars of chocolate work well) and these can be given to pupils at the end of the day for eating at home.

Maja and Kornelia are running a competition to Guess the Teddy Bear’s Birthday. 50p per guess and all proceeds go to SCIAF. The winner will be announced on Friday at assembly.

World Book Day book tokens will be given out on Friday. Remember to come dressed up as your favourite character and bring £1 to participate (all proceeds go to SCIAF).

Our Ramsay Campus will be 10 years old in June and we have lots of exciting things planned. Our Year of the Young Person Group (Sophie, Ewa, Skye, Tristan, Cairn and Summer) are working with Loanhead pupils to lead this work. This week we are designing a campus celebratory badge as part of a competition. More details for our celebrations to follow!

ParentPay is an online payment system for schools. It allows parents to pay quickly and securely for school meals, milk, trips and much more. We will go-live with ParentPay on 5th March 2018.

The system is easy-to-use and offers you the freedom to make online payments by credit or debit card, whenever and wherever you like, 24/7.  You can access ParentPay using any pc, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

TODAY in the school bags are individual letters detailing the account activation procedure. If you haven’t already, please create an account at our Midlothian Council website and find out more about Parent Pay at www.midlothian.gov.uk/parentpay

We will of course continue to accept cash and cheque payments as necessary but we do hope that you will use the new online facility. Less time spent in school on cash handling means more time is available to support the smooth running of the school.

I am keen to meet with you and will always seek to offer you an appointment quickly. If you would like to speak with me about any matter- big or small- please contact the school office on (0131 271 4685) for an appointment.
